Apple iPhone 17 Could See Price Hike After 7 Years – Here’s Why

Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series might have a price increase that US customers won't like. Tech analyst Jeff Pu (GF Securities) says the iPhone 17 lineup could be pricier than the iPhone 16 series. This is due to import tariffs on products made in major hubs like China and India.

The Tariff Twist – Bad News for US Buyers

The US currently taxes iPhones from China at 20%. But, there's no tax on iPhones made in India. That's why Apple has moved a lot of its US-bound iPhone production to India.

However, if Donald Trump's new tariff policy is approved, iPhones from India could also face a tax. This would make Apple's production costs go up, and those costs will likely be passed on to consumers.

How Much Could Prices Rise?

Market speculation suggests the iPhone 17 could cost $50 to $100 more than its predecessor. This is about ₹4,200 to ₹8,400 in Indian currency. Any tariff changes could affect these prices.

Apple's Likely Strategy to Soften the Blow

Apple might use a smart marketing strategy to make the price hike seem less bad. For example, the iPhone 17 Pro's base storage could go from 128GB to 256GB. This is a feature usually found in the Pro Max model. This way, customers might feel they're getting more value despite the higher cost.

If these predictions are correct, the iPhone 17 could end Apple's 7-year streak of stable pricing. This could start a new era of more expensive flagship smartphones for US buyers.
